Farmers in Rianjagi planted their first coffee trees in 1950. The Cooperative has one wet mill only. The Coop is located within Ngandori East location, Manyatta Division, Embu North District on the north eastern slopes of Mount Kenya. The Coop is managed by an elected board of 5 members. Each member represents an electoral zone in the location. Currently the Coop has 8 permanent members of staff who are headed by a Secretary Manager who is the Chief Executive Officer overseeing the day to day running of the Coop under the supervision of the board.
Timely and selective hand picking of the red-ripe cherry is carried out in Rianjagi. Cherry is delivered to the wet mill the same day that it is picked. Cherry sorting is carried out at the wet mill prior to the pulping. Red ripe cherries are separated from under ripes, over ripes and foreign matter. Processing utilizes clean river water (wet processing) that is recirculated before disposal into seepage pits. Sun drying is done before delivery of the coffee to the dry mill for secondary processing. The highest standards of hygiene are observed throughout this process.
